CROCK POT CORNED BEEF

Crock Pot Corned Beef

A Crock pot, also known as a Slow Cooker, is an electrical kitchen appliance that cooks food at a relatively low temperature as compared to other cooking methods. This allows the meat to tenderize and absorb flavors for many hours without drying out. It also makes it possible for the chef to leave the house all day while the dinner cooks.

Recipes intended for other cooking methods have to be modified for slow cookers. Quantities of liquid may have to be adjusted as there is very little evaporation. There should always be just enough liquid to cover the food.

Corned Beef is one of the easiest to make of all Crock Pot recipes. Here's a basic recipe that just about anyone can make.

Also included here is a tangy recipe for horseradish sauce.

INGREDIENTS:

a 3-pound slab of corned beef

1 cup of white vinegar

2 tablespoons light brown sugar

3 fresh carrots, peeled and chopped

1/2 head of cabbage, coarsely chopped

1 large coarsely chopped onion

2 large cloves garlic, chopped

6 Peppercorns

3 bay leaves

***********************************

DIRECTIONS:

Put all the ingredients into the crock pot.

Fill the pot with water so the meat is covered by about an inch.

Cook the meat for 8–10 hours on low heat.

THAT'S ALL THERE IS TO IT.

This dish is excellent when served with mustard, and is also good with horseradish sauce. You can make a very tasty horseradish sauce by combining

1/4 cup of mayonnaise,

1/4 cup of sour cream,

1 tablespoon of Dijon mustard,

2 finely chopped green onions and

2 teaspoons of prepared horseradish.

Mix all the ingredients until evenly blended.

***

Then again, some people prefer to eat this kind of meat with ketchup, while others like to enjoy it as is.

SERVING SUGGESTION:

This meat goes well with baked or roasted potatoes.

The leftovers make very tasty lunch meat sandwiches.
