April is the fourth month of the year, and has 30 days. The word comes from the Latin word "aperire," which means "to open," because April is the season when plants begin to bloom.April's birthstone is the diamond. The signs of the Western Zodiac associated with the month of April are Aries and Taurus. The only states admitted to the Union during the month of April were Maryland and Louisiana. In the United States, special days in the month of April include April Fools Day on April 1st, Jewish Passover on April 6th, Easter on the second Sunday and the day of the deadline for filing taxes, which falls on on April 15th. Lesser known April holidays include International Children's Book Day on April 2nd, Jackie Robinson Day on April 11th and Earth Day on April 22nd.
Here's an easy, low-cost, very cool idea for an Artist's Easter Basket: 1) Instead of fake grass, line a basket with shredded paper. 2) Print out the free Easter coloring pages from the links shown below. 3) Roll each coloring page like a tube, and tie a ribbon around it. 4) Arrange the rolled up coloring pages around the inside of the basket. 5) Place a watercolor paint set, dry-erase markers, color pencils and/or crayons in the middle of the basket, or scatter them around in the shredded paper. 6) You could also include a tiny artist's canvas, available at most arts & crafts stores.
