FIREWORKS CLIPART AND THE 4th OF JULY

Shown here are a few lively samples of fireworks clipart, in honor of America's birthday, also known as INDEPENDENCE DAY.Independence Day is a United States holiday that falls on the 4th of July. It commemorates the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, by which America declared its independence from British rule, toward the end of the Revolutionary War. Independence Day is often celebrated with fireworks, parades, barbecues, carnivals, picnics, baseball games, and other traditional American activities, as well as many patriotic displays and performances. By an act of Congress, the 4th of July became a paid federal holiday in 1938. National 4th of July annual events include "A Capital Fourth" in Washington DC, the "Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular" in Massachusetts and the Macy's Fireworks Display in New York City. The longest running Independence Day celebration is the Bristol Fourth of July Parade in Bristol, Rhode Island, held every year sine 1785. The colors associated with Independence Day are, of course, red, white and blue.

FOURTH OF JULY NIGHT
by Carl Sandburg
The little boat at anchor in black water sat
murmuring to the tall black sky
A white sky bomb fizzed on a black line.
A rocket hissed it's red signature into the west.
Now a shower of Chinese fire alphabets,
A cry of flower pots broken in flames,
A long curve to a purple spray, three violet balloons -
Drips of seaweed tangled in gold,
shimmering symbols of mixed numbers,
Tremulous arrangements of cream gold folds
of a bride's wedding gown
A few sky bombs spoke their pieces, then velvet dark.
The little boat at anchor in black water sat
murmuring to the tall black sky.
