Florida's highway system contains 1,473 miles of interstate highways (I-4, I-10, I-75 and I-95), and almost 10,000 miles of local and U.S. highways.
Most of Florida is a peninsula between the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean. But part of it extends northwest into a panhandle, and is bordered on the north and northwest by Georgia and Alabama. Florida is near several Caribbean countries such as Cuba and the Bahamas.
With 67 counties and 20 Metro areas, Florida has the 4th highest state population in the United States. Florida's population estimate was 18,251,243 as of 2007. Florida's largest cities are Jacksonville, Miami, Tampa, St. Petersburg, Hialeah, Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, Tallahassee and Cape Coral, in that order.
