Here are some fun presidential facts and other important historical facts about the state of Virginia.

The history of America is closely tied to Virginia, especailly during Colonial times. Jamestown, founded in 1607, was the first permanent English settlement in North America and slavery was first introduced there in 1619.

The American Revolution and the Civil War both ended in Virginia, at Yorktown and Appomattox, respectively.

Virginia is called the "Mother of Presidents" because eight U.S. presidents were born there. They are George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe, William Henry Harrison, John Tyler, Zachary Taylor, and Woodrow Wilson.

Other famous historical figures from Virginia include Patrick Henry, Sam Houston and Robert E. Lee.
