The Smartest State Award
Fairly recently, a company called Morgan Quitno developed the Smartest State Award. Calculations were based on factors like standardized test grades and the number of libraries per square mile. Also playing a major role is the student-teacher ratio. The fewer students per teacher, the better.
The state of Vermont (ranking first on this list) has an average studet-teacher ratio of less than eleven to one. In Arizona (ranking last) the average pupil-teacher ratio is more than twenty to one.
The following list shows how your state measures up compared to other U.S. states in terms of the quality of public education.
Following that is a list of average IQ scores by state, based on a calculation of SAT scores, according to various statistical websites. Try not to take it personally.
