Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina and Tennessee have no minimum wage law. Roughly 2.4 million US residents over the age of fifteen have an average income of about $900,000 per year. The rest of us - almost 238 million adult residents - have an average income of about $26,000 per year. The Federal Minimum Wage is $7.25 per hour. As of January 1st 2012, all states must offer this amount (or more) for minimum wage. If a state's minimum wage law states a lower amount, the Federal Minimum Wage is automatically applied.
