The state of Michigan is in the northern part of the United States, towards the east, and is considered part of America's midwest.
Michigan's boundaires include four Great Lakes (Erie, Huron, Michigan and Superior), as well as Lake St. Clair. Many smaller lakes, not to mention rivers, are scattered throughout the state. Nobody in Michigan is ever more than six miles from water.
The state consists of two peninsulas, connected by the Mackinac Bridge. The lower peninsula is the part that looks like a mitten. The upper peninsula is bordered by Wisconsin on the south.
The ten largest (most populated) cities in Michigan are Detroit, Grand Rapids, Warren, Sterling Heights, Flint, Lansing, Ann Arbor, Livonia, Clinton Township, and Dearborn, in that order.
