MAP OF MICHIGAN CITIES
Map of Michigan Cities
The state of Michigan is in the northern part of the United States, towards the east, and is considered part of America's Midwest. Michigan's boundaries include the four Great Lakes (Lake Erie, Lake Huron, Lake Michigan and Lake Superior), as well as Lake St. Clair. Many smaller lakes, not to mention rivers, are scattered throughout the state. Nobody in Michigan is ever more than six miles from water. The state consists of two peninsulas, connected by the Mackinac Bridge. The lower peninsula is the part that looks like a mitten. The upper peninsula is bordered by Wisconsin on the south. The ten largest (most populated) cities in Michigan are Detroit, Grand Rapids, Warren, Sterling Heights, Flint, Lansing, Ann Arbor, Livonia, Clinton Township and Dearborn, in that order. Some of Michigan's most popular tourist attractions are the Detroit Institute of Arts Museum (established in 1885), the Michigan's Adventure Amusement Park in Muskegon and the beaches of Traverse City. More unique destinations include the American Museum of Magic in Marshall, and a place called 'Shrine of the Pines' in Baldwin, which features amazingly handcrafted wood furniture. The name "Michigan" is probably derived from an Indian word, "Mishigamaa," which means "big lake." Some of Michigan's most famous residents are Francis Ford Coppola, Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, Madonna, Marshall Mathers (a.k.a. Eminem), Diana Ross, Bob Seger and Danny Thomas.
