A map is merely a simplified picture of a space. It shows the relations (size, distance) between components (objects, regions) of that space. Any physical space can be mapped. Examples of land maps include POLITICAL maps (states, counties, cities, etc.), NAVIGATIONAL maps (street maps, railroad maps, nautical maps, etc.), and TOPOGRAPHICAL maps (elevations and terrain).
