STATE SALES TAX CHART



Below is a state sales tax chart, with each state's average sales tax rate (% of purchase price) as of January, 2008. This data was found on a US Tax Administration web page.

The state with the lowest cost of living is Oklahoma, followed closely by Arkansas and Texas. But sales tax in these states are relatively high. Hawaii, on the other hand, has (by far) the highest cost of living, yet it's sales tax rate is rather low (4 %). What else can you determine from this chart?
